Sports keep you fit, bring you joy, and strengthen team spirit. That’s why sports and physical activities have always been an important part of the youth hostel experience. Across Germany’s Rhineland, from the Lower Rhine region to the Eifel, DJH hostels offer a wide range of excellent training facilities for sports enthusiasts. Many hostels feature their own sports facilities, while others provide guests and sports groups with convenient access to nearby sports venues.

Around 93 youth hostels across Germany carry the certification “especially suitable for sports groups” (Besonders geeignet für Sportgruppen). Together with the German Sports Youth (dsj), a national sports youth association, high-quality standards have been developed to identify facilities suitable for competition preparation, sports school trips, training camps, and recreational sports. In Germany’s Rhineland, a total of 22 youth hostels have been awarded this certification.

Just as technique, fitness, and endurance are crucial for a sports group, team spirit plays an especially important role when it comes to winning a football match or a competition. That’s why many of our hostels also offer excellent options for active breaks, such as:

• Fire pit areas for activities such as baking bread on a stick

• Disco rooms for a relaxed dance evening
• Bistros for a fun post-sport gathering

• Common rooms for exercise or relaxation activities
