The castle municipality Brüggen is located at the Lower Rhine and adjoins the Dutch border. But the proximity to our Dutch neighbours isn`t what Brüggen constitutes. Lastly Brüggen itself has more sights to offer than some metropolises. You have probably heard about the castle Brüggen, the landmark of the village. It was documentary mentioned for the first time in the 13th century and harbours today the museum „Mensch und Jagd“. With the Brüggen mill, the „Kreuzherrenkloster“- in which nowadays the town hall is housed-, the mansion Dilborn and the „Weissen Stein“- a medieval place of jurisdiction- there are many more buildings which are bearing witness of the colourful past of the municipality. Outside the city core the nature park Maas-Schwalm-Nette is awaiting you which you can explore by bicycle or at a walk. The premium hiking-paths are ensuring unique experiences of nature. But also for families with children the region is suitable for hiking: the nature- and animal park, the bird reserve Borner See or the Hariksee with boat rental and minigolf are famous excursion destinations and reachable on foot.
The plump life at the Lower Rhine- the youth hostel Brüggen
Located amidst the forest, the youth hostel Brüggen is the ideal starting position to explore the nature park Maas-Schwalm-Netten. But maybe you like to spend some time in the youth hostel for now? Here there`s always something going on! Especially school classes appreciate the uncomplicated atmosphere of the house but also music groups like to come to Brüggen because here they can rehearse relaxed. Beside the five rehearsal rooms especially the superb acoustics of the lobby is delighting them. Certainly you will be pleased with one or another free concert- naturally just at defined periods.
