Our service for families from A to Z

How to find us

The youth hostels for families are usually easy to reach by public transport. You can find route descriptions on the website of the hostel you have chosen or in the hostel brochure you can order from our DJH Service Centre.

Common room for families

Most of the youth hostels have a special room in which families can sit, play, paint or make things together in a comfortable atmosphere during the day or at night.

Facilities for babies and small children

Our youth hostels for families make special facilities for babies and small children available free of charge (e.g. cots, high chairs, baby phones). The precise range varies from hostel to hostel. Because there are only a limited amount of facilities for babies and small children available, please state what items you need when booking.

Bed & Bike

The youth hostels designated by the ADFC as "Bett & Bike" facilities are highlighted accordingly. You can find further information on the services available to cyclists and cycle routes in the Rhineland in the brochure "Cycling in the Rhineland“, which the DJH Service Centre will send you free of charge.

Bedding

Bedding is included in the overnight price.

Food and drink

Most meals are offered as a buffet. We also accommodate vegetarians and special eating habits related to religions. All meals are freshly prepared. Breakfast is usually from 7.30 - 9.00, lunch between 12.00 and 1.00 and dinner between 6.00 and 7.00. Additionally, nearly all hostels offer lunch packs, coffee and cakes, barbecues and food parties.

Biking and hiking

Our hostel teams will be happy to support you in planning your route and have suggestions and map material available for you. You can get our special brochure for cyclists, "Rhineland biking excursions", from our DJH Service Centre free of charge.

Family groups

If you want to spend your holidays with other families you know, youth hostels are ideal because they offer a lot of space and usually an individual common room, even for smaller groups. Programs for family groups of 10 people or more can be found on our "Weekend group excursions" page.

Family prices

You can stay at family youth hostels at a very special rate: firstly, adults pay the junior price (which normally only applies if you are under 26). Secondly, children's discounts of 50 percent apply for families in all 35 Rhineland youth hostels. Children under 3 can stay free of charge. Family prices apply to families who have a valid DJH Family Membership and come with their child(ren).

Family rooms

Each family stays in their own room. Family rooms always have a sink; nearly all of them now have their own bathroom. A parent travelling alone with their child will be accommodated in their own family room.

Membership

DJH membership is required in order to stay at a youth hostel. Annual family membership costs €22.50. It can be purchased before staying at the Düsseldorf Service Centre or directly upon arrival at the youth hostel.

Excursion planning

Our hostel teams will be happy to support you in planning your day and give you inside tips for interesting excursions and sightseeing tours in the region.

Prestigious title

The youth hostel Neuss has been awarded the prestigious national youth hostel title of Family Youth Hostel [“Familien|Jugendherberge”]!

Smoke-free

All youth hostels are smoke-free. Smoking points have been set up in the outdoor area.

Travelling time

During the North-Rhine Westphalia school holidays our hostels are not visited as frequently by school classes. At this time there is a lot of room for a relaxed family holiday. Families can - in complete contrast to the usual trend - therefore count on a lot of space and fair family prices at this time.

Wheelchairs

You can see the youth hostels that are suitable for wheelchair users on our pictogram. There is more detailed information in the brochure "Mobility at youth hostels", which you can order free of charge from the DJH Service Centre.

Keys

Families are given their own key so that they can be independent of the youth hostel opening times.

Special offers

Some youth hostels have further family reductions during the North-Rhine Westphalia school holidays. The reduced prices are valid once per family / per stay!
