Families are welcome in all 450 hostels in Germany! More than 120 of our hostels that are certified as particularly family-friendly also meet defined standards. For example, they offer for our youngest guests:

Strict seating arrangements, dull conversations, and no room for fun or an adventure? Not with us! Youth Hostels are neither just for adults nor only for kids. In Youth Hostels, community spirit comes to life for everyone – we have been #differentthanyouexpect for almost 111 years now! In Youth Hostels, your social or cultural background doesn’t matter. They are for everyone who feels compelled by our values: tolerance, inclusion, international understanding and open-mindedness. We bring these values to life in the roughly 450 Youth Hostels across Germany every day, out of conviction and in the most creative ways. Some Youth Hostels are even certified as especially “family-friendly” hostels and offer large and small families a whole range of special features, such as stays in family rooms or meals that are suitable for children. And what about the parents? They can relax, knowing that their kids can run and play safely in the Youth Hostel’s leisure areas and sports grounds. Your stay in one of the German Youth Hostel Association’s hostels is rounded off with an array of individual travel arrangements and programmes that make for memorable experiences and great entertainment – be it a bonfire night in the great outdoors or a joint outing to the climbing arena. What we provide for families
On request you can stay in a family room with child-friendly facilities, from high chairs and cots to bottle warmers. In many locations, we offer special recreational activities for children. On the playgrounds and in the play areas your children will soon find friends for their holiday. You will be amazed how well they get on with children from many different countries and how they find ways of communicating, even with their hands and feet if necessary. The menus in our youth hostels, too, are designed with our small guests in mind.
Special programmes for family holidays
Our hostels offer a wide variety of programmes for your family vacation, also specially for single parents with children or for groups of several families. For example, choose between creative workshops, sporting activities, or wellness, theme and adventure packages, and language courses. At the same time it is possible both to book a complete programme, for example suitable for specific age groups for children, and to take advantage of seasonal components (Easter, New Year, Halloween, ...).
