Karlsruhe

Portrait

Karlsruhe: between culture and technology, town and countryside. Not yet 300 years old, Karlsruhe has enjoyed a long tradition as a research metropolis. What would the world look like without the invention of Karl Benz, a native son of Karlsruhe?

The way the town's streets fan out is famous not only with architects. Karlsruhe is also known as the "green city". Parks with towering trees and well-kept gardens characterize the town. How about just strolling through the park? Or visiting the ZKM? Or going on a trip to the zoological city gardens? Karlsruhe Youth Hostel lies on the northwestern edge of the town centre, between Karlsruhe Palace, the College of Engineering and the College of Education.

In the Hostel in Karlsruhe, guests will find a stimulating environment where a intense cultural exchange is possible. The programme ranges from historical aspects to contemporary youth culture. Guests can experience exciting cultural experiences. The hostel can offer a highly qualified range of programmes for school trips, camps and seminars.

Arriving by public transport

Karlsruhe is an important junction of the Deutsche Bahn railway company, located on the ICE Hamburg-Frankfurt-Basel line. This is where the west-east axis of Karlsruhe-Stuttgart-Munich also begins.
Karlsruhe main station is in the southern town centre, opposite the city park/zoo.
When you leave the station through the main exit, you will find both the taxi stand and tram stops on the newly designed station forecourt. The Tourist Information Office is also on the other side of the square.
The hostel is 2.5 km from Karlsruhe train station.

Please take the number 4 tram line (to Waldstadt) or the number 6 tram line (to Rappenwört/Daxlanden) and get off at the "EUROPAPLATZ" stop.
From there, follow the blue information signs at the bike stands, towards the "Jugendherberge" ("Youth Hoste") into Karlstraße.
At the end of the road turn left and immediately right again through the pedestrian traffic lights, into Seminarstraße.
At the end of this road, turn left again and after 100 m turn right again.

For timetable information, please contact the Deutsche Bahn (German railway company) direct on (01805) 19449

Due to a construction site, it is currently not possible to travel via Moltkestraße. We recommend arriving via Reinhold-Frank Straße. An access road is also signposted via Stephanienstraße. However, this is not accessible for trucks or buses.
