Arriving by public transport
Ortenberg can be reached by train via the Rhine Valley line between Karlsruhe and Basel, Offenburg railway station (with ICE stop) or the Schwarzwaldbahn (Black Forest Railway), Gengenbach station.From there, take either the 7134 or 7160 bus to Ortenberg, get off at the "Schloss/Freudental" stop. Journey time from Offenburg about 10 minutes, from Gengenbach about 15 minutes.
The castle is only about 500 m from the "Schloss/Freudental" stop. Go to the Krone (restaurant) (follow the main road to Gengenbach) and turn left into the road to the castle; follow it up the hill right to the hostel.

Arriving by car/bus
If you are driving here, take the A5 (Frankfurt-Basel) motorway and take the Offenburg exit; then take the B33 towards Villingen-Schwenningen.Behind Offenburg, take Ortenberg-Elgersweier exit.
In Ortenberg, go straight ahead at the mini roundabout (narrow road just to the left of the Krone inn) and follow the road to the castle until you get to the hostel.
Caution: only buses with a maximum length of 12 m can drive up to the hostel.
