Welcome to the tobogganing capital of Saxony!

Do you just love hiking across blossoming mountain meadows in the spring or wandering through brightly coloured autumn woodland? Do you fancy a torchlight walk through snowy Zinnwald, or would you rather enjoy the fresh mountain air in the summer? You can do all of this at the Jägerhütte. Once an ore washing plant, the Youth Hostel is surrounded by woodland and lies about a kilometre north-east of Zinnwald.

Tips for your stay

  • To help you plan your stay we have put together a list detailing some of the region's attractions and recreational activities. The Youth Hostel team would be happy to help you arrange your individual itinerary.
  • Zinnwald is situated in the heart of the Eastern Ore Mountains' historical ore mining area, where tin and silver used to be mined. In addition to an informative trail around the Youth Hostel, the neighbouring towns of Geising and Altenberg also bear witness to this mining past (silver mine, visitors' mine). The deep Bünaustollen mine in Zinnwald, which is only around 500 metres away from the Hostel, is yet more evidence of the mining industry of old. An exciting tour lasts about 1.5 hours. Natural features include Georgenfelder Hochmoor, a raised bog. Other walks will take you to the "Kohlgrund" bobsleigh track, or perhaps across to the nearby Czech Republic, where the Mückentürmchen tower and Bouřňák mountain await you.
  • Sports and leisure facilities at a glance:
  • volleyball, table tennis, badminton, barbecue area at the Youth Hostel
  • guided day hikes, including "Three Mountains Tour" or Czech Republic with Mückentürmchen tower and Bouřňák mountain
  • herb and forest walks
  • Zinnwald visitors' mine
  • Altenberg's Historic Tin Washing Plant
  • luge and bobsleigh track, rides available all year round
  • falconry display and Lauenstein riding centre
  • Glashütte German Watch Museum
  • Bärenhecke mill and bakery
  • "Raupennest" swimming pool and sauna complex
  • Altenberg summer toboggan run
  • outdoor pool - during winter a skating rink (hire skates) in Geising
  • karting in Geising
  • cross-country trails, ski lift and downhill skiing in Germany and the Czech Republic
  • hire snowboards and gear for cross-country and downhill skiing
  • skiing courses in Altenberg
  • travel on the "Bimmelbahn" tourist train in Altenberg
