Wismar is an old Hanseatic town and World Heritage Site - and simply beautiful! You can get a real sense of history in one of Europe's best preserved historic town centres. You will find all kinds of beautifully renovated historic buildings standing right next to each other, including luxurious, modest and intriguing ones. The town is a work of art that reflects the spirit of various eras and influences. This also impressed UNESCO in 2002 and was the reason it assigned world heritage status to Wismar.

A different wind blows out on the bay and opposite at the different island beaches of Poel. Children laugh and splash about in the water, those craving the sun simply sunbathe, trawlers chug along, dogs bark - here you can really unwind and enjoy your break! Just like nature. There is hardly any other place where you can hear so many different birds than here on Poel.

- daily: 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Reception hours from 01 October an 30 April
- Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
- Saturday/Sunday: 8 - 11 a.m. and 3 - 6 p.m.

Checkin: 3 - 6 p.m.

Locations & directions

Four massive churches are a clear sign: you are close to a UNESCO world heritage site! Only two kilometres away from the Hostel, listed buildings are ligned up along the narrow alleyways and along the outlines of the enormous market square. Gothic brick buildings everywhere! But the variety of building styles is surprisingly large. For instance, there are splendid renaissance buildings such as the "Alter Schwede", a gabled brick building, the "Schabbelhaus," or the "Frische Grube" building, which dates back to the 13th century. And the city's oldest road has a channel along its centre. Originally, it used to supply the citizens with fresh water from the Mühlenteich lake. At the time, it was state-of-the-art. Today, you can marvel at it in its original state again. The enormous 10,000 square metre market square is the centre of the city.

Wismar is a city that is just as fit today as ever. Modern art galleries, animal, game and sport parks in and around Wismar are waiting to be explored and provide plenty of space for fun and games. Cycling is great fun in Mecklenburg Heath and just opposite, on Poel Island, you can enjoy pristine nature and beautiful beaches. And what about Schwerin? The pearl of a city and state capital is always worth a day trip!
