Situated between the Lüneburg Heath and the Wendland, 1,000-year-old Uelzen impresses with historic market streets and pretty half-timbered gables, with the town hall built in 1347 and the mighty St. Marien Church, which houses the largest organ in the Lüneburg Heath. A magical attraction is the fairytale-like "Hundertwasser Railway Station", the colourful work of art designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser for EXPO 2000.

The youth hostel team is looking forward to being your host. The "Fischerhof" in Uelzen's city forest looks back on an eventful history and today serves as a place for everyone who appreciates shared experiences. Sports and music groups feel just as comfortable here as school classes. We have various rooms available for seminar and conference groups. The facilities include two pianos, an electric piano and a football pitch, table tennis, beach volleyball, streetball, a mini-golf course and a barbecue area with a fireplace.

Water rats get their money's worth in Uelzen - whether in the Spaßbad Balue or in the beautiful Oldenstadt Lake. In the spa gardens you can go for walks with llamas and alpacas (registration required), and at Erlebnishof Constien in Gerdau (10 km) you can get up close and personal with donkeys. You've never seen a prairie bison or a water buffalo? Discover them and many other animals on a farm animal safari at BioGut Bauck in Bad Bodenteich (20 km), where you can also get up close to nature on the 400-water Barffoot Trail. You can also canoe downstream on the Ilmenau to Lüneburg. In Hösseringen (20 km), an exciting museum village awaits you with a great programme on many days.
