Trier lies on the banks of the Moselle and is surrounded by sprawling woodland scenery and world-renowned vineyards to the left and right of the river. Germany's oldest city boasts a great many fascinating attractions, such as the Porta Nigra, the Roman Amphitheatre and the Imperial Baths. But the plethora of hiking routes, cycle paths and attractions close to the city - including in nearby Luxembourg, for example - will also ensure plenty of variety. Taking a boat down the Moselle is a truly special experience indeed.
