Welcome to the Sorpesee in the Sauerland

Welcome,
to the beautiful Sorpesee and our lakeside Youth Hostel!
Thanks to our exquisite location, the Hostel is just as suited to sports groups as it is to those seeking a relaxing family holiday or an exciting school trip destination. Music groups, seminar participants, church groups, hikers and all manner of club groups will also feel they're in good hands with us. Since our redevelopment in 2010, more than half of our rooms have been equipped with an en-suite bathroom, and some even have direct views of the lake.
As of this year, the Youth Hostel is home to a VDWS surf school, thus offering the only opportunity in the region to combine surfing with affordable accommodation right next to the water and good food.
The newly designed Sorpe promenade, which has cafés as well as places where kids can play, is becoming increasingly popular with visitors by the day, while the new route around the Sorpesee is great for pedestrians, cyclists and even roller-bladers.
Our activity programmes can also make your stay an unforgettable experience.
We look forward receiving your call or email!

Located directly next to the lake - on the western shore - 500 m away from the dam.

  • A number of our 40 bedrooms - some of which are even equipped with en-suite shower and WC - offer lovely views of the lake.
  • There are 166 beds in total, in rooms for group leaders, for families and in dorms. Our Youth Hostel also has six common rooms - for larger groups we even have space for up to around 150 people - providing plenty of room for meetings, events or seminars. Guests can hire surfboards, Canadian canoes and roller blades (protective equipment included). The "teachers' room" is a nice place of refuge for small meetings and reading.

Exciting activities ALL year round

We offer a range of interactive learning programmes that are both fun and deliberately aimed at strengthening team spirit and group cohesion: raft-building in teams, exciting Canadian canoe rides in teams and breathtaking climbing fun in the summer months. During winter we have a range of special indoor and outdoor programmes for you, and should you wish we can provide homemade punch or hot cocoa by the fireplace! The nearby Wildewiese ski resort is fantastic for winter sports. Our ecology centre is an exciting yet informative place for children to discover the natural habitats of water and woodland.

Our suggestions:

The Sauerland offers a wide range of great attractions. The Sorpe Dam can be seen from our Hostel - groups can go and explore it from the inside! Other exciting destinations include: the "Felsenmeer" ("Stone Sea") in Hemer, Herdringen's open-air stage, the old Luisenhütte furnace, "Wildwald Vosswinkel" woodland adventure park or one of the many beautiful stalactite caves. With its impressive castle ruins and Sauerland Museum, the medieval town of Arnsberg is also always worth a visit - even in winter. Fort Fun adventure park and the Karl may Festival in Elspe are two more thrilling destinations for your day trips. We would be happy to assist you in planning your excursions!
