The new Oldenburg Youth Hostel

Welcome to a brand new hostel full of fresh ideas!

The new Oldenburg Youth Hostel is currently being built at its original location close to the central station. Opened in October 2019, it has 64 beautiful rooms, all with shower and WC, as well as modern conference and workshop facilities, a stylish communal lounge with plenty of seating options, a food store and an expansive patio. You’re going to love it!

Oldenburg Youth Hostel is an inclusive accommodation provider, offering a community experience to people with and without handicaps. We want to create spaces where handicapped individuals can contribute their knowledge and skills in the world of work.

Modern accommodation, city tours & country outings

The new Oldenburg Youth Hostel is the ideal starting point for excursions in our lively university city and the surrounding region. Choose from a range of activities, such as browsing the stands at Oldenburg market, cycling through the local countryside or canoeing along the River Hunte. The city centre, with its many attractions and vibrant cultural scene, is just a few minutes’ walk from our hostel. Check out Oldenburg’s wonderful shops, or its surprisingly diverse bars and eateries. Nearby Zwischenahner Meer, a lake that the locals also call the “Pearl of Ammerland”, is a popular wind surfing and sailing destination. Set off on a journey of discovery along the beautiful cycling paths in and around the city, or take a day trip to Bremen, the North Sea coast or the Netherlands.

Simply choose your favourites from a comprehensive programme of attractions, activities and events, enjoy the hustle and bustle of the marketplaces on market days or just stroll around enjoying the beautiful sights. Guests travel from near and far to visit Oldenburg’s Easter markets, pottery markets, wine festivals, merchants’ markets and the lovely Lamberti Christmas market. All these attractions are within quick and easy reach of centrally located Oldenburg Youth Hostel.

Oldenburg caters to visitors of all ages. Parents with kids can take a look at the city’s art treasures, visit the botanical garden, check out the Oldenburg Summer of Culture venues or explore the surrounding region! Sports enthusiasts will love the water park and spa, or the large-scale climbing centre. Hörgarten Oldenburg offers acoustics-related experiments and phenomena to curious visitors. The theatre programmes cater to all age groups and a cycling or canoe tour is always an exciting experience. Cyclists will enjoy the flat countryside and well-signposted routes in the Oldenburg region, and there are eleven beautiful cycling tours. The hostel has a locked bike shed with e-bike charging points and a cycle service station with repair kits and pumps. Oldenburg Youth Hostel is a great place to spend an enjoyable family holiday! 

School class expeditions

There are lots of things to discover, past and present, in Oldenburg – university city, City of Science 2009 and “City of Tomorrow”. Our experience modules, including the fun sport of crate climbing and a city tour, will help your school class to develop a strong team spirit. Day excursions to the Klimahaus® Bremerhaven or Universum® Bremen, the island of Norderney or the Dutch town of Groningen, are great adventures for the kids. Collective fun is guaranteed on a river kayak tour or during an excursion to Zwischenahner Meer for swimming and water sports activities.

Conference guests are welcome!

Conference and workshop guests are very welcome at our hostel! We have five ultra-modern conference rooms that can be combined if necessary for larger groups. The three conference rooms on the south-facing side of the building have access to their own patios. We also have a small meeting lounge for three to five people, state-of-the-art conferencing equipment and a comprehensive portfolio of individual services. Enjoy your conference or workshop at our modern, centrally located venue!

Several lakes at picturesque locations, the Ammerland region with Zwischenahner Meer, coastal cities such as Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven, the East-Friesland coast, the island of Helgoland and the Dutch town of Groningen all make excellent day excursion destinations from the hostel. Breathe the sea air, stroll along the harbour promenade, chill out on the beach and enjoy the neighbouring country’s art and culture! And when you return to the hostel you can relax and make your plans for the next day of your holiday.
