At over 31 metres high, the viewing tower next to the Youth Hostel provides expansive views across the Ore Mountains/Vogtland Nature Park and the neighbouring Czech Republic. But not just the views are excellent. Apart from the Youth Hostel's wide range of facilities both indoors and out, it's special programmes like "Carrot eating contest", "Olympic crackers" and "Taster nights with the Aschberg Witch" that really attract visitors to Klingenthal. The region is also known as a centre of winter sports. In fact the "Kammloipe", one of Germany's most beautiful cross-country skiing tracks offering some of the most reliable snow conditions is right on your doorstep, while Europe's most modern ski jump, the Vogtland Arena, is in town.
Vogtland Arena
One of Europe's most modern ski jumps can be found in Klingenthal itself: the Vogtland Arena. Having hosted the Ski Jumping World Championships in February 2007 and the Nordic Combined World Cup in January 2008, Klingenthal has returned to the main stage of winter sports. Tannenberg Mine
Visitors to Tannenberg Mine will gain an insight into the activity of a 20th-century vein mine. Learn about the most important operating points on the gallery bottom during the period between 1936 and 1964. You can also travel through a medieval tunnel, which was created using sledgehammers and iron. Go on a journey through time from the 15th century until modern times! www.schneckenstein.de
