Hitzacker, with its pretty half-timbered houses and cobbled streets, is considered one of the most charming places in the Wendland. Surrounded by the Elbe and Jeetzel rivers, the vast landscapes invite you to take a deep breath. Kilometres of cycling and hiking trails lead through the Elbhöhen-Wendland Nature Park and the Lower Saxony Elbtalaue Biosphere Reserve with its fine sandy beaches. The forests of the Drawehn, with the Göhrde State Forest, offer one of the largest forest areas in northern Germany and a real paradise for hiking enthusiasts. Don't miss the picturesque Rundling villages on your discovery tours!
The Archaeological Centre in Hitzacker with its reconstructed Bronze Age longhouses offers a hands-on experience of human history and programmes specially designed for children, which we have included in some of our school trip programs. Evidence of recent German history can be found along the "Grünes Band", in the form of remnants of the inner-German border fortifications.
The annual Summer Music Days in Hitzacker are world-famous for chamber music. There is often music at our youth hostel too. Choirs, orchestras and music clubs can make music in our rehearsal rooms in a relaxed atmosphere. In addition to our four pianos, we can offer you a beautiful grand piano if required.
Hitzacker Youth Hostel is also ideal for families, groups and school classes. The hostel has a spacious outdoor area with beach volleyball, table tennis, outdoor chess, streetball and a campfire site, and is located in the middle of extensive forests and close to the Elbe.Highlights
