Opening in spring 2013!

Welcome
to Haltern am See Youth Hostel.

Dear guests,

There's a lot going on in Haltern am See: Since November 2011 we've been working to completely upgrade and extend our Youth Hostel. From January 2013 you can look forward to 44 brand-new rooms (between one and six beds each) - each of them equipped with an en-suite bathroom and WC, large windows and cheerful decor. Total beds available: 168.

The first floor will have 6 airy group/seminar rooms, while the ground floor will house a light-filled, multi-functional dining hall stretching across 155 square metres complete with outside terrace. Offering attractive modern buffets, the adjacent room will offer plenty of space for meal times to run smoothly.
Furthermore, guests can expect a bistro with sunny terrace, a recreation room and a huge outdoor area with plenty of games and sports facilities as well as barbecue and campfire areas. Our very own climbing wall with zip wire promises to be a real highlight.

The new Youth Hostel is beautifully situated between the Hohe Mark Nature Park, the "Westruper Heide" heathland and Haltern's reservoir. This magnificent setting is packed with interesting attractions, including the historic old town, but also countless opportunities for guests to get some exercise outdoors: Hiking, cycling, swimming, canoeing and pedalo rides, football, beach volleyball - the list goes on and on! We put together a number of top tips and activity programmes for you on this website.
Bookings for 2013 are of course already being taken: Book online or call us on +49 (0) 2364-2258.

See you soon here at Haltern am See Youth Hostel!

Surrounded by nature...

Our Youth Hostel is located in magnificent natural surroundings: between the Hohe Mark Nature Park, the wooded hills of the Haard, the "Westruper Heide" heath area and the numerous lakes near Haltern's own reservoir. The Haard, the "green lungs" of the northern Ruhr Area, is a populatrr destination and is criss-crossed by a rich network of hiking and cycle trails. There are also a number of signposted Nordic Walking routes. In addition to the world's smallest heathland museum and imposing juniper trees, the Westruper Heide, with its characteristic fauna and flora, is a great place to explore via the interesting sandy trail circuits. The lakes in the area (Halterner See, Hullerner See, Silbersee 2 and 3, Dülmener See) are fantastic for a range of activities, from taking a ride on the "Möwe" passenger boat, to enjoying long, sandy beaches for bathers, caneo and pedalo hire, and enjoying the quieter, less busy waters in the nature protection areas. Haltern's historic old town is lovely for leisurely strolls, with historically significant buildings and the Roman Museum telling of this town's 2000-year-long history.
Our tips for activities and excursions have been listed under the "Leisure activities" heading.
