In the tri-border region of Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland you will find Görlitz - Germany's easternmost town with a population of around 60,000. Situated on the river Neiße, Görlitz is connected to the neighbouring Polish town of Zgorzelec. With a past dating back more than 900 years, the town still has many buildings in the Gothic, Renaissance, baroque, Wilhelminian and Art Nouveau styles. Together they form a unique monument area that is a real magnet for tourists and fans of architecture. Nowhere else can visitors relive the Middle Ages quite how they can in Görlitz's historic old town. The unmistakable Landeskrone mountain near the town, the Native Wildlife Park and lovely parks are great for passing the time. Görlitz forms a fantastic base from which to go on day trips exploring the mountainous and watery scenery of the surrounding area, such as the Königshain Mountains, the Zittau Mountains, the "Giant Mountains" and the Heath and Pond Landscape of Upper Lusatia. The town has numerous cultural facilities such as museums, theatres, cinemas, libraries and galleries. Other attractions include Einsiedel Island with recreational park, an adventure playground with tree house, tours through the Zittau Mountains and cycle tours on the Oder-Neiße Cycle Route.
