The Freusburg is a castle complex dating back to the 11th century. It was opened as a Youth Hostel in 1928, and then expanded in 1986 and renovated. It has 58 rooms with a total of 199 beds. 54 rooms are equipped with an en-suite shower/WC and 4 rooms with washing facilities. In addition to 4-bed rooms, the Youth Hostel offers a large number of single and twin rooms. The Youth Hostel's great facilities mean it's also suitable for large groups. We have 3 pianos available for choirs and orchestra rehearsals. There are all sorts of rooms that guests can use, such as day rooms for between 30 and 50 people and the Rittersaal ("Knight's Hall") and music hall, which can hold up to 80 people. We can also offer conference groups additional equipment including a projector, flip chart and overhead projector. There is a wireless hotspot in the Freusburg's reception area!

Action and relaxation

The Freusburg is in a charming location in the northern Westerwald. The surrounding area is perfect for hikers, cyclists and mountain bikers. The lovely Sieg-Bigge Cycle Route, which takes you from Kirchen all the way into the Siegerland and southern Sauerland, is just one option. Extending for around 12 km, the route passes through the Asdorf Valley and shows you important sights such as the Druidenstein ("Druid's Stone") and the little "Tüschebachsweiher" lake, where you can hire pedalos. Guests who manage to cycle all the way up to the Freusburg are awarded with a free drink - and then knighted! A popular family destination is the nearby wildlife park in Niederfischbach. You can discover some fascinating facts about "treasures from the deep" on a trip with the mine railway into the "Bindweide" iron ore mine or at the Mining Museum in Sassenroth. Or perhaps you fancy trying out the routes - totalling 170 km - at Kirchen Community Association's Nordic Walking park.
