The Youth Hostel is located about 0.3 km from the city centre on the river bank of the Werra, about 1 km from the Werratalsee lake.

The modern Youth Hostel accommodates its guests in a total of 176 in 34 homely rooms of varying sizes with 2, 4, 6 or 8 beds. Some rooms have en-suite showers and toilets. The 21 rooms with "gallery beds" taste of adventure, and are particularly popular among families with children.

Outings to Meissner mountain massif (Mother Holle's home) or to Wartburg castle in Eisenach.
In addition, the Youth Hostel management has put together pre-arranged programmes with trained supervisors for its guests.
