Culture and recreation

Dortmund still bears numerous signs that recall the wider region's mining past. Most of the awe-inspiring industrial complexes are now used as museums of social history, such as the Hansa coking plant and the Zeche Zollern, whose splendid Art Nouveau constructions once earned it the name "Castle of Labour". World-class concerts are held in Dortmund Concert Hall. The renowned Museum Ostwall collects works by major artists of the 20th century, while the Westphalian Industrial Museum houses exhibitions on technological and social history. If you're seeking peace and quiet with a touch of nature, you'll love the many parks Dortmund has to offer, such as the Westfalenpark with its trademark "Florianturm" telecommunications tower. Nothing but green as far as the eye can see, a saltwater pool and sauna facilities - the Revierpark in Wischlingen is all you need to enjoy the ultimate in relaxation.
