Chemnitz - a real insider tip for the young avant-garde and a "think tank" of innovation - is where contemporary artists like Carsten Nicolai, musicians like Kraftklub as well as businesses such as "Wanderer-Werke" and "eins energie" originated or are based. For this reason the Youth Hostel has a special "Science & Arts" profile. Centrally located in the downtown area, this is the ideal base from which to explore Chemnitz. The building, which used to be a converter station created by Wagner-Poltrock, is a remarkable testimony to Chemnitz's top industrial architecture: With its hoist trolley and "imported" flywheel, guests can appreciate first-hand the atmosphere of this period.

Public transport to the Youth Hostel
Train to Chemnitz Hauptbahnhof, then approx. 1.3 km by foot or take bus 32 until "Getreidemarkt" or tram 2 or 6/522 to "Zentralhaltestelle" (approx. 400 m walk).
Arriving by bus/car
Take the A 72 until the exit "Chemnitz-Süd" or the A 4 until the exit "Chemnitz-Mitte", then follow the signs towards the city centre ("Innenstadt").
Arriving by plane
Dresden or Leipzig/Halle Airport, then take the train to Chemnitz Hauptbahnhof, then approx. 1.3 km by foot or take bus 32 until "Getreidemarkt" or tram 2 or 6/522 to "Zentralhaltestelle" (approx. 400 m walk).
OR
Dresden or Leipzig/Halle Airport, then drive along the A 72 until the exit "Chemnitz-Süd" or the A 4 until the exit "Chemnitz-Mitte", then follow the signs towards the city centre ("Innenstadt").
Parking
Parking in public car parks for a fee.
Free public parking is about a 10-minute walk from the Youth Hostel.
