Our tips for your stay

Those who stop at Bad Schandau Youth Hostel should not under any circumstances miss out on the region's special features. The unrivalled location in the middle of "Saxon Switzerland" National Park, with its breathtaking rocks and ravines, unique fauna and flora and variety of walking trails, isn't just a treat for nature lovers, hikers and romantics.
The Youth Hostel itself offers plenty of activities, including the loan of a range of sports and games equipment, table tennis, a large playing field, a barbecue and campfire area as well as a disco system. The hostel wardens would be happy to organise a rustic farmers' evening for you, or can help you plan walking or cycling tours.

Sightseeing and excursions

It goes without saying that guests should make the most of the delightful and varied scenery. The 860-kilometre Elbe Cycle Route passes Bad Schandau. Whether you attempt the whole thing or stick to individual sections will depend on your other plans, how far you want to cycle, and how far you CAN cycle! In addition, you can organise adventure trips by canoe or raft down the Elbe, or why not go for the climbing courses in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. End your day by relaxing at the Toskana Therme thermal baths, where visitors can enjoy the "Liquid Sound", bathing in sound, colour and light. Great hiking destinations include the Schrammsteine area, Hinterhermsdorf with its barrage system, Bohemian Switzerland with the Pravčická brána rock formation and boat rides in the quiet, wild ravine, Rathen with views from the Bastei, Königstein, Bielatal and many more. Themed walks include the Panorama Trail and the Caspar David Friedrich Trail as well as the Flößersteig Trail. Don't forget: The central national park visitors' and information centre can be found in Bad Schandau. What's more, plenty of towns and cities are waiting to be discovered: plan excursions to Dresden, known as "Florence on the Elbe", to Prague, the "golden city", to Pirna, known as "Little Prague" and Canaletto's town, to Meißen, the town of porcelain, or to Sebnitz, the town of artificial flowers.
