Ratzeburg is located in a beautiful lakeland area. There are 2 sailing schools close by. Besides sailing and rowing boats, pedal boats, canoes, hydrobikes and dragon boats can also be hired. A well-marked network of hiking trails is suitable for walking and cycling. The cathedral and its courtyard with museums form the cultural centre of the town. Culture is very important here. Barlach Museum, A. Paul Weber Museum, District Museum and St. Georgsberger Kirche (church) are really worth seeing. The Ratzeburg "Erlebnisbahn" ("Experience Train") offers unusual leisure options. Take a ride on the hand-lever draisine handcar along a now unused railway track.
