Learning AND having fun? Of course!

Holiday time is coming and the kids know exactly what they want: a break from school without learning stress and with a lot of time for friends, sporting activities and a variety of experiences. It is often not easy for parents to fulfil their children’s wishes, especially when the children get bad marks. Many parents ask if their child would not be better off spending their holidays learning. Here’s the good news: they can do both! The youth hostels of the Rhineland are extracurricular places of learning and offer holiday programmes that combine fun, action and learning.

Kids aged between 8 and 14 can improve their English playfully in the holiday programmes, “Wild Wild West”, “English Fun Week” and “English Brainsport Camp”. At the Duisburg Sportpark Youth Hostel kids can find out all about learning styles, time planning and learning strategies. Speed learning or mind mapping, vocabulary cards or aides-memoire – everyone can find out how they tick. But fun is not neglected either – with slacklines, yoga and football. Just like the holiday programmes at the Lindlar Youth Hostel: This “Gut Drauf” youth hostel has two programmes to choose from and does full justice to its name. The Move@media programme teaches teens how to make animated films. Chairs and footballs will be able to walk and matchstick men demonstrate the latest tricks on the slackline. And of course, everything should look as real as possible – which is why the participants’ total physical commitment is required when slacklining, on the high-rope course or when playing beach soccer. Afterwards, everything is documented and analysed before a movie is generated on the computer. And it is not only about English, learning and filmmaking: dealing with one’s one body is also learned. At the Lindlar Youth Hostel girls aged between 11 and 14 will learn a lot about how to feel well in their own bodies, about confidence and charisma.
