Cornwall Hostels

Welcome to Land's End

Cornwall is one of the UK’s most beautiful counties. It’s home to stunning beaches, quaint seaside towns and no shortage of amazing views.

Accomodation in Cornwall

Cornwall is a vast area, so there are a number of locations in which we recommend you should visit and stay, should time allow! If ecology and the natural environment are of interest, then look no further than YHA Eden Project, a unique hostel which provides on-site accommodation at Cornwall’s largest tourist attraction.

If a beachside location with stunning views out sea is more your style, take a look at YHA Treyarnon Bay. This hostel also has plenty to offer, including a pedigree for hosting quality live music. YHA also have hostels at Land’s End and Lizard Point, the most westerly and southerly places in mainland Britain respectively!

Sights in Cornwall

Cornwall’s number one tourist attraction is the Eden Project. Described as the ‘World’s largest rainforest in captivity’, the Eden Project provides visitors with a unique experience and insight into the crucial relationships between plants and humans. It makes for a fantastic family day out.

Cornwall is also home to a number of beautiful small towns and villages. Most famed are St Ives, Penzance, Falmouth and Padstow. Each has its own individual character but they are all united by their maritime history and pretty harbours. Be sure to sample the local produce, as Cornwall is home to a number of brilliant restaurants specialising in fish dishes, such as the Stargazy pie!

The county is also known for being a haven for surfers. While the area may not be able to boast waves quite of the size seen in South Africa, Australia and Hawaii, Cornwall offers great surfing for beginners through to those more experienced boarders. Fistral beach in Newquay is perhaps the best known surfing beach in the UK, but beware – it can get very busy, especially on a warm summer’s day. If you fancy somewhere a bit quieter, head to Polzeath, a tiny town a few miles up the coast from Newquay.

Also of interest are Tintagel Castle, a mysterious and intriguing ruin and the subject of a number of Arthurian tales, plusMinack Theatre, an open-air theatre constructed just yards from the sea.

Eating out in Cornwall

Cornwall is associated with a number of culinary delights! With cornish pasties, ice cream, fish and chips, cream teas and fudge, there’s plenty to tuck into! In terms of true highlights there are a few standouts. Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant in Padstow is eternally popular and the Jamaica Inn in Bodmin is Cornwall’s most famous Smuggler’s Inn.

Getting around in Cornwall

Cornwall is a little out on a limb, which certainly adds to its charm. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible to access, though. You can catch a train from London to Penzance, from which you can access branch lines both north and south within the county. Bus provider First Kernow offer good value day tickets to most towns in the county, and a Ride Cornwall ticket offers unlimited travel around Cornwall on both trains and buses for a day, which is a good value option.

Top Tip for Cornwall

Cornwall is best enjoyed at a slow pace. Make sure you give yourself adequate time to truly enjoy the entirety of what this quaint corner of England has to offer. YHA is perfectly positioned to facilitate this, with hostels located across the county.
