1-Introduction - General description of the service
The German Youth Hostel Association – Baden-Württemberg Regional Association strives to make its website (jugendherberge.de/en/baden-wuerttemberg/) accessible in accordance with the German Accessibility Improvement Act (BFSG). This accessibility statement applies to this website.
The German Youth Hostels (DJH) website offers users the opportunity to find youth hostels in Germany, view information on offers and availability, sign up for memberships, and book overnight stays. The website is aimed at DJH members and interested guests. It is the core of our digital booking and information service.
2-Applicable legal requirements
This accessibility statement refers to the requirements of the Barrier-Free Strengthening Act (BFSG), which was issued on the basis of EU Directive (EU) 2019/882. The specific technical requirements are set out in the legal ordinance pursuant to Section 3 (2) BFSG, in particular on the basis of standard EN 301 549.
3-Consumer information in accordance with Article 246 EGBGB
The essential consumer information about the website, the services offered and its use can be found in our General Terms and Conditions and in the Privacy Policy. These contain in particular information on:
- Provider identification
- Conclusion of contract and contract term
- Payment modalities
- Right of cancellation and cancellation period
- Technical requirements
4-Status of compatibility with the requirements
The website fulfils the requirements of the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG) with the following exceptions:
Non-accessible content
The website was revised in June 2025 in order to fulfil the legal requirements of the BFSG to the fullest extent possible. The following measures, among others, have already been implemented:
- Basic usability via touchscreen and keyboard navigation
- Response to system settings (e.g. dark mode, font size adjustment)
- Partial support for screen readers
The content listed below is not barrier-free for the following reasons:
- PDF documents: Some of our PDF documents are not yet accessible. We are working on adapting these as quickly as possible or providing accessible alternatives.
- Alternative text for images: Alternative texts are currently also used on decorative images and do not always explain the content or function. We review and update this content on an ongoing basis.
- Machine readability through assistive technologies: Not all (operating) elements are readable by assistive technologies (such as screen readers). We are currently reviewing this content and making technical adjustments.
- Contrasts: Various contrasts are not sufficient to ensure good readability. We are in the process of revising the colours for text and non-text content and will implement these as soon as possible.
- Keyboard focus: The keyboard focus does not follow the logical order in some places and sometimes remains in the background when overlaying elements such as modals are opened. We are in the process of implementing the correct behaviour.
- Headings: The headings used do not always describe the associated content. We are in the process of improving the readability of headings.
- Link texts: Link texts are not always formulated clearly. We are in the process of listing the relevant links and assigning meaningful link texts to them.
- Keyboard operability: Some areas cannot be operated using the keyboard. We are in the process of adapting these areas technically to ensure keyboard operability.
These barriers will be removed step by step. A justification for unfulfilled requirements (e.g. due to technical complexity or disproportionate burden) will be documented in each case.
