Association & Structure

The DJH Regional Association of Baden-Württemberg e. V. has existed in its current form since 1 January 2000. It was formed through the merger of the two DJH regional associations of Baden and Swabia.

The reasons behind this merger were to consolidate and strengthen the youth hostel network, enhance financial strength, achieve combined synergy effects in administration, present a unified public image and ensure consistent representation within the state. The two DJH regional associations of Baden and Swabia could themselves look back on a long history of independence. They were founded in 1920 and 1918 respectively.

The driving force behind youth hostels in Baden-Württemberg
The DJH Regional Association of Baden-Württemberg e. V., together with the DJH Central Association and 13 other independent DJH regional associations, is a sponsor of the non-profit German Youth Hostel Association (DJH). With over 340,000 members, it is the largest of the 14 regional associations. The DJH Regional Association of Baden-Württemberg e. V. pursues exclusively and directly charitable objectives in the interests of youth welfare and in accordance with the section on “Tax-privileged purposes” of the German Fiscal Code.
