Regensburg – 2,000 years with a promising future
Regensburg – a UNESCO World Heritage site
Regensburg – a UNESCO World Heritage site
Regensburg is known as "Germany's mediaeval wonder".
The city, which was inscribed onto the UNESCO World Heritage list in July 2006, is characterised by a unique abundance of buildings and art treasures from Roman times, the Romanesque and Gothic eras and the Baroque and Rococo periods, thus embodying almost two thousand years of history.
All this waits to be discovered in a very compact space. The historic quarter is a mere one and a half square kilometres in size yet is packed with almost a thousand listed buildings – erected by rulers, bishops, monks and patrician merchants from Bavaria and the rest of Germany.
Today a vibrant business scene and 20,000 or so students keep the old city young at heart.
