Passau – The three river city
Passau, a city of great cultural interest, lies at the confluence of the rivers Danube, Inn und Ilz, and originated as a Celtic settlement of fishermen, pearl divers and rafters. The cathedral located on the rock promontory that divides the Danube from the Inn marks the start of the well-preserved old quarter with its many narrow alleys. Time-honoured fortifications such as the Oberhaus stronghold and Niederhaus castle are located on a spit of land between the rivers Danube and Ilz.
