Berchtesgadener Land – once home of the gods
The Berchtesgadener Land district offers a wealth of things to do and places to see, such as the famous salt mines, the Eagle’s Nest, bunker system and museum on Obersalzberg, the Obersalzberg summer sledging run, and the Watzmann Therme, a swimming paradise featuring an 80-metre slide, an endless pool and brine baths. Further attractions include Berchtesgaden Castle, a local history museum and wood carving workshops. Berchtesgaden is also an ideal starting point for stimulating hikes and mountain climbing at all levels of difficulty, as at Lake Königssee, the Jenner, Kehlstein and Watzmann peaks, the Almbachklamm and Wimbachklamm gorges, the village of Ramsau, Hintersee lake, etc. The hostel itself offers green spaces with plenty of room for games, a large grassed area set aside for football, and a barbecue corner that is a favourite gathering place for guests on summer evenings.
