Discover Ozeaneum

Along with the Maritime Museum, Ozeaneum Stralsund is one of the most popular destinations in Germany. The combination of aquarium and museum is well-liked. Dive into the underwater worlds at the Baltic Sea and into the world's seven oceans. There is tons to see at the Maritime Museum, including plenty of tropical water fish. The outer shell is cleverly done: The former Dominican St. Katharinen monastery provides a remarkable setting for the acquariums. In the Ozeaneum, cold-water fish from the northern seas can be viewed here. But not to worry: thanks to the giant glass panels, only the fish will get wet!

These are the main appeals of Stralsund Youth Hostel:

  • Perfect starting point for discoveries in the Ozeaneum
  • Great flair of the Hanseatic town of Stralsund
  • Brick Gothic architecture, a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site, in the historic town centre

Location & Directions

Swimming, paddling, windsurfing, sailing - water fun begins at your doorstep here. Stralsund Youth Hostel is located in the city's Devin district, and boasts its own bathing beach on the Sund. Roundabout the hostel, there's lots to discover for inquisitive minds. The Ozeanum and German maritime museum beckon you to discover the offshore habitat under the surface of the water.

Cog builders, patricians and the Swedes all left their mark on the hanseatic city. A stroll through the historic city centre with its impressive old market square ("Alter Markt") and the north German gothic brick buildings are things you shouldn't miss! After all, there is a reason why UNESCO declared the historic maritime city on the Sund a world heritage site.

Everything's on the move

The lake wind blows around the corner. Sometimes it ruffles your hair, sometimes it rattles at the house. It plays with the leaves in the trees, creating light and shadow play. It knows no stagnation or monotony. Nor do we. Class meetings, theatre plays, musical rehearsals - everything is always in movement with us. There is always a fresh wind blowing with us.
