Things to do and see in Brisbane
Mt. Coot-tha is Brisbane’s tallest mountain just west of the main CBD district. There is a wonderful scenic route that passes through the heavily forested Mt. Coot-tha Reserve to the top of the mountain which offers wonderful views across the whole city in all direction. While here you could also visit the Brisbane Botanic Garden, Queensland’s premier subtropical botanic garden that offers visitors a living museum of exotic and native plant collections. Also here is the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium with great interactive exhibits teaching everything about the cosmos.
Brisbane City Hall was built in the 1930s and is a heritage-listed building and Brisbane’s most significant historical landmark. Here also lies King George Square which is the ceremonial and civic heart of the city with regular great activities scheduled throughout the year. Queensland’s Cultural Centre is the place to go for Queensland’s Museum, Art Gallery, Conservatorium, State library and the Gallery of modern Art (GoMA) which regularly features famous artists such as Picasso. For a break from all this culture, just next door is Brisbane’s South Bank which features an artificial beach next to the river over-looked by lush parkland. This is a great place to shop, relax and hang out in the many trendy cafes and bars.
There are always many activities and events, both cultural and historic happening in Brisbane and it is always worth asking your hostel’s reception for details of what’s happening in this wonderful vibrant and lively city while you are visiting.

Getting around in Brisbane
Brisbane is a friendly and easily accessible city for walkers and cyclists. This is also a great way to see the many attractions, especially around the CBD district which is relatively flat and where many of Brisbane’s attractions are. For attractions outside the CBD, public transport is frequent, easy to use and includes trains, buses and also ferries. The CityFerry and CityCat are a great way to see the city and also include regular stops along the river making it a perfect alternative for getting around.
